Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, located in the beautiful Cotentin region of Normandy, is preparing to host a world-renowned nautical event: the Rolex Fastnet Race. Organized by the Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC), this legendary race attracts hundreds of yachts of all classes every year, mixing professionals and amateurs. In 2023, for its 50th edition, the Rolex Fastnet Race will leave Cowes, on the Isle of Wight in England, for a triumphant finish in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin in July.
From July 17 to 29, 2023, Cherbourg-en-Cotentin will be decked out in the colors of this legendary race.
Competitors will have the opportunity to finalize their entries and take advantage of Cherbourg’s infrastructure before crossing the Channel to Cowes, where the start will be given. Before the start of the race, the public will also have the chance to meet the skippers and discover the yachts in the port of Cherbourg.
After rounding the famous Fastnet Rock, the sailing fleet heads for the tip of Normandy, where the fastest boats are expected from July 23. Competitors will then race in the port of Cherbourg until July 29. A race village will be set up on the Plage Verte in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, opposite the competitors’ pontoons, offering a host of festivities and entertainment throughout the week.
